Warnings and Precautions

Biodesix assumes that each collection laboratory has adopted appropriate processes and procedures for handling blood samples and using dry ice, including those related to blood borne pathogens, phlebotomy, and personal protective equipment. Please follow your institution’s approved guidelines and the respective material safety data sheets (MSDS).

Collection and Preparation Procedures

1. Draw a minimum of 3 mL of blood into the 3.5 mL SST Vacutainer. Do not collect from a line or into a tube that contains heparin, EDTA, or other anticoagulant.

2.  Affix supplied VeriStrat patient identification label to SST tube to ensure that it matches the patient identified on the corresponding VeriStrat Test Request Form.

3. Note the sample collection date on the VeriStrat Test Request Form.

4. Gently invert the Vacutainer 5 times to remove all silica from the side of the tube.

5. Allow the blood to clot for 30 minutes in an upright position at room temperature (approximately 70°F).

6. Spin the tube in the centrifuge at 1,000 to 1,300 g (or equivalent) for 10 to 15 minutes (to prevent hemolysis, be sure NOT to spin too high or too long).

7. Using the transfer pipette, carefully transfer 0.1 mL (approx. 2 drops) of serum to the cryovial without disturbing the clot or gel layer of the SST tube. Do not add more than 0.2 mL (approximately 4 drops) of serum to the cryovial.

8. Label the cryovial with the supplied VeriStrat patient identification label. Attach the matching supplied VeriStrat patient identification label on the corresponding VeriStrat Test Request Form.

NOTE: the identification on the cryovial must match the identification lavel on the VeriStrat Test Request Form in order for the sample to be tested.

9. Immediately follow the shipping instructions outlined in the sample submission section.
